Ayo AkinwolereBack to client list »
Ayo Akinwolere is a three-time BAFTA nominee and RTS award-winning broadcaster, who has made the leap from Blue Peter ?to being the BBC’s face of investigative journalism in the West Midlands.
During his 5 years on Blue Peter, Ayo was pushed to his limits, spurred on by a personal quest to conquer his fears of heights and water. He not only bungee jumped from a helicopter, 11,000 feet over Santa Monica, but also trained to become a qualified sky diving instructor. In his final year at Blue Peter, Ayo set a new world record for the deepest location for an open water swim by battling more than 5 miles over the Palau Trench in the Pacific Ocean, the first person to do so. This incredible feet of endurance was made more significant due to Ayo’s phobia of deep water and the fact he only learnt to swim 10 weeks prior to the challenge.
His natural aptitude for sport led him to report on the London Mini-marathon and commentate on the South African World Cup for CBBC. Ayo played a central role throughout the London Olympics, where he was the main host for the Olympic torch relay. This included a 70 day tour road show for LOCOG, which gave him the chance to interview some of the country’s greatest sportsmen and women including Daley Thompson, Lennox Lewis and Torvill & Dean.
Ayo is also a regular host for Wembley Stadium’s hospitality event, the FA Club, where he presents match analysis at England games, alongside ex-players and guest pundits, to an audience of sponsors.
In 2016, he live hosted the main stage at Shell’s Make The Future London: a festival of ideas and innovation held at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. One of the highlights included interviewing the famous footballer Pele.
Ayo is a diverse presenter and has fronted several factual shows for the BBC including Teens From A Small Island, Stammer School and his personal favourite, World Olympic Dreams for which he travelled to Jamaica to investigate why Jamaicans run so fast and interviewed sprinting superstar Usain Bolt. He is the presenter of BBC current affairs strand, Inside Out, presenting investigative factual stories for the West Midlands edition?of the strand.
Ayo has appeared on shows such as Celebrity MasterChef (BBC), Pointless Celebrities (BBC), Dancing on Ice (ITV1), The Great Comic Relief Bake Off (BBC2) and The Great British Banquet (BBC2). He has also reported for The Gabby Logan Show (Channel 5) and World of Weird (Channel 4), presented The 100 Greatest Toys for Channel 4 and ITV’s Fort Boyard: Ultimate Challenge.
Ayo works closely with several charities and is the ambassador of Street Child World Cup in Rio and Body and Soul, a pioneering UK charity dedicated to transforming the lives of children, teenagers and families living with, or affected by, HIV. As a member of BAFTA, Ayo presents their annual Young Film Critic Awards and has been nominated in two categories at the children’s BAFTAs: Presenter of the Year and Best Factual Programming for his Street Child World Cup documentary. He also guest lectures on media and broadcasting at universities across the UK.
Ayo is a keen traveller, having visited over 120 cities across the globe. His photographs have been selected for National Geographic Kids Magazine and Vogue Bambini. Ayo will also be writing for the digital magazine The Maior a collective space for talent, ideas, interviews and film for the fledgling greats, the innovators and the divergent.
Thank you for everything, Andy did an amazing job and we were really happy of his work!
5/5 for the overall experience….Our students loved him…[they] found the talk inspiring and they really liked Andy.
Andy?s a really enthusiastic guest speaker, which people certainly enjoyed….Andy?s talk was motivational enough anyway and it certainly inspired me to try a new challenge!
As a producer with TBA, I run the live show at the FA Lounge at Wembley Stadium. The lounge hosts between 400 and 600 corporate sponsor guests at each live match fixture held at Wembley.
I have worked with Andy on four shows in the last 7 months including the FA cup semi-finals and the FA cup final. Andy is always pleasure to work with, he is very professional and collaborative. There are several segments to the show including audience interaction, pitch side interviews with high profile pundits and presenters along with pre and post-match analysis. Andy is a highly charismatic presenter and brings lots of energy to the room which our FA clients really love and is the reason why they choose him time and time again.
