Jimi Famurewa is one of Britain's most celebrated food writers. He’s an award-winning restaurant critic, author, broadcaster, and journalist whose work goes far beyond reviewing what's on the plate.
Jimi has written for publications including the Guardian, GQ and the Evening Standard, where he was their chief food critic. Jimi also appears as a regular guest judge on MasterChef and was a judge on The Great Cookbook Challenge with Jamie Oliver. His critical work has earned him Restaurant Writer of the Year at both the Fortnum & Mason Food and Drink Awards and the Guild of Food Writers Awards in 2021 — two of the most respected accolades in the industry.
His debut book, Settlers: Journeys Through the Food, Faith and Culture of Black African London, is a richly layered exploration of cultures and cuisines which draws on Jimi’s own experience growing up in London’s African diaspora. It examines the complex cultures, histories and, unsurprisingly, cuisines that both unify and challenge the community. His 2025 memoir Picky is a generous, warm look at life built around food, through sharing his personal journey from a childhood of fussy eating to a respected voice in the culinary world.
Jimi is a compelling and thoughtful presence on stage and on screen. He’s equally at home moderating a panel, leading a fireside conversation, or speaking on topics ranging from food, culture and identity to the cultural stories and culinary traditions embedded in communities.
