Marianna Spring is an award-winning journalist, author and broadcaster.
In 2020, Marianna was appointed as the BBC’s first disinformation and social media reporter. By 2024, her role had evolved into social media investigations correspondent. She focuses on exposing the real-world impact of online misinformation, conspiracy theories, hate and algorithms.
Marianna has fronted multiple high-profile investigations for BBC Panorama, BBC Three and BBC Radio 4. These include the podcast series Marianna in Conspiracyland investigating the UK conspiracy theory movement, as well as Why Do You Hate Me series, interrogating extraordinary cases of social media hate and harm. For BBC Panorama, she has exposed the impact of social media on teenagers, the tactics of conspiracy theorists targeting survivors of terror attacks, the evolution of Twitter after Elon Musk bought the site - and explored the rise of online abuse against women. She is co-host of the BBC’s Americast podcast and offers wider analysis of how social media feeds are impacting society, democracy and elections.
Marianna has been named Best Host at both the ARIAS and British Podcast Awards. Her first book Among the Trolls: My Journey Through Conspiracyland was published in 2024 by Atlantic.
