Dame Mary Berry is one of the UK’s most beloved cookery writers and television personalities, whose warmth, expertise, and enduring appeal have made her a true national treasure.
Awarded a Damehood in the 2020 Birthday Honours for services to broadcasting, the culinary arts, and charity, Mary’s contribution to British food culture spans more than five decades. She trained at Le Cordon Bleu in Paris and at the Bath School of Home Economics before becoming cookery editor of Housewife magazine in the 1960s, and later Ideal Home, laying the foundations for a career that would go on to reach millions.
Mary first appeared on television in the 1970s and has since written more than eighty cookery books, with combined sales exceeding six million copies. She is known worldwide as a judge on The Great British Bake Off and Best Home Cook, as well as their various spin-off series, and reached international audiences by presenting The Great American Baking Show for NBC.
Her television work continues to evolve, with a much-loved series of annual food and interview programmes, the most recent of which, Mary at 90, aired in October 2025. Further credits include Mary Berry’s Country House Secrets, Mary Berry Saves Christmas, and A Berry Royal Christmas, in which she joined Prince William and Catherine, Princess of Wales to prepare a festive feast in honour of volunteers.
Mary has received numerous accolades throughout her career, including the Good Housekeeping Food Book of the Year and Best TV Judge at the National Television Awards. She was awarded a CBE in 2012 for services to the culinary arts.
